A 17 year-old boy has been confirmed dead and another missing after they reportedly fell into a galamsey pit at Anwiafutu near Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region.
The deceased identified as Kwabena Anane and his friend Atta Derrick, 18, who is still missing had gone to the area to search for gold on Monday.
The teenagers, according to residents, fell into the pit full of water after some security men suspected to be forest guards chased them in the process.
Efforts are underway retrieve the body of the one who fell into the stagnant water while the police have commenced investigation into the incident.
The Nyinahin area in the Atwima Mponua District is one of the districts in the Ashanti Region noted for illegal mining.
